Study Goal: Privacy Policy

This privacy policy relates to your use of the Study Goal app.

Owner and Data Controller

Your institution is the data controller for the Study Goal app.

Jisc Services Ltd (JSL), a Jisc group company, is the service provider and data processor for the Study Goal app.

Types of data collected and how they are used

Personal data may be freely provided by you or, in the case of usage data, collected automatically when you use the app.

User provided data

You can enter your study targets and learning activities into the app. This data will be visible by you and your institution.

Automatically collected data

Usage data is collected when you use the app. This may include the type of mobile device you use, your mobile device’s unique device ID and IP address, your mobile operating system, the type of mobile Internet browsers you use, and information about the way you use the app. We may use this data to monitor the operation of the app and usage of its features in order to enhance the app.

Real time location data

When you visit the app, we may use GPS technology (or other similar technology) to determine your current location. The app will only collect location data when you check-in to register attendance at an event such as a lecture using the app. We will not share your current location with other users.If you do not want us to use your location for the purposes detailed above, you should turn off the location services for the mobile application located in your account settings or in your mobile phone settings and/or within the mobile application. If you wish to check-in without sharing your location use the web service at https://studygoal.jisc.ac.uk/.

Photos / media / files

The app will access your media files so that you can upload a photo to your profile.

Camera

The app will access your camera so that you can take a photo to upload to your profile.

Mode and place of processing the data

Methods of processing

We take appropriate security measures to prevent unauthorised access, disclosure, modification, or destruction of your personal data.

Data processing follows procedures and modes strictly related to the purposes described above. Your data will be accessible to key staff at your institution and JSL who manage the Study Goal service (administration, sales, marketing, legal, system administration) and external parties (such as third party technical service providers, mail carriers, hosting providers, IT companies, communications agencies) appointed, if necessary, by us or your institution. The updated list of these parties may be requested from your institution at any time.

Place

All personal and organisational details are held in compliance with the current data protection legislation, and are stored on servers within the EEA (European Economic Area). Your data is processed at our operating offices and in any other places where the parties involved with the processing are located, including your institution. Retention time

We will retain your data for the term of your Institution’s Service Contract with us, which could be for a period of up to 5 years. If you stop using Study Goal your data will be retained for the remaining term of your Institution’s Service Contract. At the end of any Service Contract we may store your data for a further reasonable period of time as part of an aggregated data set for benchmarking and course or service improvement purposes. We will also remove your personal data if you ask us to (see “Your rights” below).

Additional information about data collection and processing

Requests by public authorities and legal action

We may be required to reveal personal data upon request of public authorities. Your data may also be used for legal purposes by us arising from improper use of the app.

Your rights

You have the right, at any time, to view your personal data or to ask for it to be corrected, updated or removed. Requests should be sent to Jisc learning analytics support.

You can easily stop all collection of information by the app by uninstalling it.

Please note that some, or all, of the data you provide may be required in order for the app to function properly.

Changes to this privacy policy

This privacy policy may be updated from time to time for any reason. We will notify you of any changes to it by posting the new privacy policy on this page. You are advised to consult this privacy policy regularly for any changes, as continued use is deemed approval of all changes.
